river way
day 32
behold the nihonbashi river. what better place to put an expressway?
in 1964, the shuto expressway was rushed into place in preparation for the olympics. it's not unique - river is cheap, and many of tokyo's rivers now have expressways over top. really kills the waterfront, don't you think?
koizumi initiated a plan to revitalize the river in august, just before retiring. early estimates range from CAD$4-6 billion to replace 2km of skyway with a tunnel.
there's not a lot going on down by the river these days, which seemed to suit this guy fine.
at least, not much was happening until these sea-doos screamed by. that just can't be legal.
didn't even wake this guy. i love that he took his shoes off before entering his cardboard coffin. even the bums have manners here.
